What’s SVT Looking For?
Sara caught up with Laurie Lane Zucker at SOCAP22 in San Francisco to discuss “why impact management?” and what SVT was looking for at the event.
Pioneering sustainable investing champion Robert Rubinstein of TBLI Group hosted a conversation with Sara Olsen in January 2022. They talked about the quality of the data– whether impact or financial data, what the state of agreement is about what matters to measure, and how the global capital markets are beginning to see what matters to people beyond shareholders. The takeaway? We’re closer than it seems to the transformation of the capital markets.
“The Era of Cause Marketing is Over'“
The creatives that manage a company’s branding are critical in bringing the firm into the new sustainability paradigm. But business-as-usual marketing isn’t enough to tackle the wicked problems posed by understanding and managing the ways a company affects the environment and society. Enter Impact Strategists, experts in impact management best practices. With their powers combined, these teams create impact strategies and systems that go beyond ‘greenwash-y’ stories to capture market share, attract talent, drive real impact, and de-risk the turbulent future ahead of every business. Check out this discussion with SVT Group, Ecotone, Mess Hill, Little & Co., that was hosted by the American Sustainable Business Network.

Impact Management in Affordable Housing: Avoiding Messaging “Backfires” Through Shared Value Analysis
MARCH 17, 2021
This webinar brought together our collaborators at Ecotone; expert at building community will for system change, Dr. Tiffany Manuel of The Case Made; specialist in the intersection of public health and housing, Dr. Tati Warren of Just Tati; and affordable housing strategy and learning legend, Stephany de Scisciolo of Enterprise Community. They divulged their hard-won insights about how impact data is crucial to building support for systems change, how it can actually hurt your case if used improperly, and what you can do to help your efforts succeed. The discussion is informed by Enterprise’s research on housing messages that backfire, and what to do to overcome them, and Ecotone and SVT’s years of work in social and environmental impact valuation and SROI.
The basic tips shared are applicable in any situation where you need to build support for your cause. Check out this 22 minute summary of the session, and spread the word!
The Role of Impact Management in Workforce Development: a Case Study
FEBRUARY 18, 2021
Sara Olsen of SVT Group and Will Nielsen of Ecotone were joined by their client Carl Phinney of Opportunity Construction for a discussion of his experience with impact management and SROI. He “lit up the eyes” of not only his investors but high powered talent he was trying to recruit to join his company with his Ecotone impact report, which we step through in this video. The bottom line? When your enterprise is about more than just profit for investors, SROI done well is both a meaningful and a powerful tool.
